Cuban-born Tony Plana played Betty’s charming father who loved to cook.
The actress revealed on the Viva Betty: An Ugly Betty Rewatch podcast that she was initially not wanted for the audition.

Plana, who turns 74 in April, has had a versatile career in television series and films. He was last seen in the series White House Plumbers and Only Murders in the Building.
Plana married an actress by Ada Maris with in 1988. The couple have two children, Isabel and Alejandro.
