The comeback season of The Voice of Holland is over. The whole thing was won by a certain Ruben Hillen, but will we still remember that name in a year’s time? “I don’t know how many more you can name…”

It’s a shame for RTL 4: the comeback season of The Voice of Holland ended yesterday with a record low. Never before has a talent show final been viewed so poorly. This is also not good news for winner Ruben Hillen, because is this really the musical kickstart he hopes for or is it a bit disappointing?

Boost

Presenter Mark Schaaf had a relationship with former Voice candidate Jill Helena. “She came fourth that season,” he explains at the desk Show news. “She had a very good first song by Michael Jackson and that also went viral, but she lost to Maan in the end. Maan de Steenwinkel, right?”

He continues: “It really is a boost for your career, but I have to say: you have to do something about it. You shouldn’t keep your door closed and think: here is the number four of The Voice. You have to work!”

Only Moon

Celebrity expert Bart Ettekoven thinks that participating in The Voice does not yield much. “You can see: Maan is actually one of the few names that still regularly appears in the charts or that you still see on major stages, because otherwise… I don’t know how many more you can name in terms of winners from recent years…”

Presenter Eva Vloon: “I can name a lot, but not those that are still active in music.”

Jamai

Bram Moszkowicz can only remember the winners of the very first Idols, the predecessor of The Voice. “I can still remember that Jamai came second.”

Bart: “No, Jamai won. But number one and two both had a great career.”

Now, all these years later, the talent show genre is in a clear viewership dip. Not surprising, says Telegraaf reporter Jordi Versteegden. “The ending at RTL Tonight took a long time.”
