We discuss in News of the Day with Ruud Koopmans why, despite the same European rules as the Netherlands, we are conducting a more effective asylum policy. It is striking that Germany successfully uses temporary border controls and that this policy actually sorts an effect. Moreover, Germany regularly seems to ignore European rules or to apply flexibly, without this leading to serious consequences.
