The European Union thinks the war in Ukraine could lead to 7 million displaced people. There is even talk of the biggest humanitarian crisis on the European continent in ‘many, many years’.
An estimate by the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR shows that almost 400,000 Ukrainians have fled their country since the invasion of Russia. Fifty of them have now reported to the registration center in Ter Apel.
Refugees at home
A group of volunteers, who call themselves Room For Ukraine, are looking for shelter for the refugees. According to the initiators, about ten people have already registered to take refugees into their homes.
