“What do you long for?”: This is the question Moby and José James ask themselves in “ache for”

In their new release “ache for” including the music video, Moby and José James address questions that affect all of our lives. Jazz artist José James and techno god Moby deliver a work that blurs boundaries and sounds anything but algorithm-based. They are looking for answers that are drawing closer, especially in the contemplative time of the year. The track, which was released on Wednesday (December 14), was produced by Moby via his label “alwayscenteredatnight”.

The piece: An ode to longing

“We came up with an unanswered question that felt very profound, ‘What do you long for?'” says James of the thought behind ache for. The short but purposeful lyrics read: “Shadows linger until dawn / Dreams half-remembered / Light as a feather, a heart of stone / Maybe I haven’t done all the things you loved / And maybe there were things we did.” could have said / Maybe I never knew all the things you could have done / Maybe I never knew / Or maybe I never asked / What do you long for? / What are you breathing for? / What are you dreaming of? / And what do you long for? / What are you striving for? / And what are you dreaming of?”

The piece: “A powerful meditation on loss, change and development”

The musicians can be quoted in the press release as follows on the meaning of “ache for”: “As the world becomes more and more scary and chaotic, I realize how much I appreciate the refuge of voices like José’s,” explains Moby. James added: “It’s a great honor to work with a legend like Moby. He sent me the track just after my sister passed away over Christmas, a moment that filled me with questions. Talia Billig and I wrote the lyrics and music in Amsterdam. (…) Moby transformed our message into a powerful meditation on loss, change and development.”
