Westhoek Vredeshoek is a very special camp

As of today, 13 young people discover the region, but above all each other’s culture. Because the group consists of Flemish young people and young people from Somalia, Ukraine and Syria, among others. Abdalaziz: ‘I’m here because I like camps and I want to make Belgian friends, and learn Dutch and other things as well.’

Today’s program included a football match and a city game in Diksmuide. Then they went by bike to their sleeping place in Merkem, and that is also a real challenge for some. Evie Lootens, Westhoek Vredeshoek: “There are a number of things. For example: can everyone ride a bicycle? Because we do get around by bicycle. There are a number of them who have followed a crash course, but we will see how everything goes. In the end, I am confident that it will work out.”

Tonight there is a delicious meal with humus and falafel on the menu. That is also a good way to get a taste of each other’s culture.
