It turned out not to be nearly enough. Only the Amsterdam construction company Schakel & Schrale registered for the tender and asked for 21 million euros, excluding VAT. Too expensive, so the municipality and the Westfries Museum had to back to the drawing board.
Contractor will carry out the job for 14.8 million euros
The cellars were deleted from the plan and replaced by a pavilion in the garden of the museum where exhibitions can be held. A new tender followed, and contractor Koninklijke Woudenberg from Ameide (province of Utrecht) will now carry out the job for 14.8 million euros (excluding VAT).
A company with experience when it comes to large projects and museums. For example, it was involved in the restoration of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and still carries out maintenance there. But the contractor is also involved in the renovation of the Hague Historical Museum and the facade of the Maritime Museum.
To the renovated museum in 2027?
According to the tender, the renovation must be completed by December 2026. It is still unclear when the work will start. The contract will be officially signed on Friday.
