The first victim, who died on July 20, Filomena di Giovangiulio, was 82 years old: she had been hospitalized on July 14th. He had fever and appeared in a state of confusion. But there was also a death in the Caserta: an 80 -year -old man, suffering from previous pathologies. Returning to Lazio, the number of infected is also growing. At the moment in the region there are 44 ascertained contagues, mainly in the province of Latina.

In all, the diagnostic confirmations of positivity of West Nile Virus in 2025 rise to 44, registered in the province of Latina (41 total cases, including the patient who died last week at the Fondi hospital) and in the province of Rome (2 cases) and 1 outside the region with probable exposure in the province of Caserta.

Experts invite to strengthen vigilance: West Nil represents a danger for those who live with a rheumatological disease and have an immune system made more fragile by the intake of immunosuppressive drugs.
