West Ham United sign Flynn Downes – Swansea City make 9m transfer plus

“Favorite club” prevails

West Ham United have won the courtship for midfielder Flynn Downes. The 23-year-old signed a contract with the “Hammers”, who claim to have beaten a number of top clubs, until June 30, 2027 with an option for a further year

Only last summer Downes moved from third-tier Ipswich Town to Swansea City for €1.7m, for which the midfielder made 39 appearances (one goal). According to “The Atheltic”, the championship club received a basic fee of almost EUR 10.65 million after one year – the “Swans” thus recorded a transfer plus of around EUR 9 million. Bonuses can even increase the transfer fee to up to EUR 16.5 million.

“It’s an unreal feeling to move to my favorite club. I feel like I’m dreaming,” Downes said. “Ever since I was a little boy I’ve dreamed of joining this club – it’s an absolute privilege. This is my club and I couldn’t be happier. I’m glad to be here and can’t wait to get started. I want to do my best and this is the perfect opportunity to measure myself against the best players in the Premier League.”
