Newcastle gets involved
West Ham United still have busy hours ahead on Deadline Day. Reinforcements are being discussed for both offense and defense. As “Sky Sports‘ reports Darwin Núñez is said to find his way to London from Benfica Lisbon.
Accordingly, the clubs have already agreed on a fee, but the TV station does not name a sum. The 22-year-old forward joined Benfica from UD Almería for €24m in summer 2020, for whom he has scored 20 goals in 25 games this season. According to The Athletic, Núñez hasn’t shown much interest in a move so far.
Draxler to Coutinho: Most expensive winter transfers in history
The deal would also be difficult from a logistical point of view as Núñez is currently on duty for the Uruguay national team and preparing for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Venezuela in his home country. Appropriate medical examinations for a change would have to be organized on site.
The “Hammers” in France are said to have identified two other alternatives. Discussions are therefore being held with talent Hugo Ekitike (19). However, Stade Reims demand more than 30 million euros. Rhys Healey (27) from FC Toulouse is therefore also on the list as a cheaper option.
In France, West Ham have also identified a potential new signing for the defence: Duje Caleta-Car from Olympique Marseille. This is reported by theL’Equipe“. OM President Pablo Longoria was not yet satisfied with the offer from the Londoners on Sunday, who are also negotiating with Newcastle United about a transfer of their central defender Issa Diop (25). The “Magpies” are also competitors when it comes to courting Ekitike and are said to have the edge. According to the “Telegraph” for a fee of almost 40 million euros.
