Together with priest Piet Declercq from Bruges, who died earlier, he chose the side of the people who suffered heavily under the dictatorship. In the 10 -year civil war, they unarmed with the guerilla fighters to assist them morally.
After the civil war, Roger remained in Morazán with the former guerilla fighters and the locals. He organized training for young people and mothers and meetings with local residents. He also protected young people against gangs.
Roger Ponseele was 85 years old.
