How much farmers receive depends on a number of factors. This takes into account the number of licensed animals. The type of animal (sows, boars, piglets under 7 kg, piglets over 7 kg) is also taken into account. But the age of the stables also plays a role in determining the compensation.
“So if the figures show that the average cessation payment of the Antwerp pig farmers who registered in the first round is approximately one third higher than the West Flemish, this has to do with the type of companies that have registered and not with unequal treatment,” says Flemish Member of Parliament Jasper Pillen (Open VLD)
