Milosevic scores again

SV Werder has collected its first points under new coach Daniel Thioune. In the relegation battle, Bremen won against bottom team Heidenheim, also thanks to another goal from newcomer Jovan Milosevic. Borussia Mönchengladbach also scored big points with a win against Union Berlin and FC St. Pauli with a three-pointer in Hoffenheim – the first this season outside Hamburg. Mainz 05 only managed a draw in Leverkusen despite taking the lead.

After 13 games, the defeated Bremen team managed a redeeming 2-0 (0-0) in the relegation duel against bottom-placed 1. FC Heidenheim. The third goal of the season from Stuttgart winter loanee Milosevic (57′) and an own goal from Hennes Behrens (90’+7) ended the negative series and gave Thioune his first win after three defeats in his fourth game as Werder coach. The success should have been higher, but Bremen’s evaluation of chances was once again weak.

For the Heidenheim team, the situation is becoming increasingly hopeless after the eleventh game without a win. With ten games left in the season, coach Frank Schmidt’s team is now eight points behind the relegation place, which Bremen has improved to thanks to their success.

Coup in Kraichgau: St. Pauli annoys Hoffenheim

A cheeky FC St. Pauli scored a surprising away win against the strong home team TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. With the 1-0 (1-0), coach Alexander Blessin’s team ended the Champions League candidate’s series of eight successes in the Sinsheim stadium. In front of 27,786 spectators, Mathias Pereira Lage shocked the Kraichgauer team with his first Bundesliga goal (45th + 4 minutes) immediately before half-time.

A week after the 2-1 win against Werder Bremen, Hamburg withstood the pressure from TSG. So far this Bundesliga season, the relegation candidate had not won on a foreign pitch other than the Hamburg city derby (2-0 at HSV) and had only collected two points (1-1 in Cologne and 0-0 in Mainz).

Diks gives Gladbach a late victory, Bayer saves a draw

Huge celebration in Borussia Park: Borussia Mönchengladbach has shown a sign of life in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga and ended the negative streak of seven games without a win in a row. The five-time German champions defeated 1. FC Union Berlin 1-0 (0-0) and climbed to twelfth place in the table with 25 points. The guests, who had ended their negative run the week before, still maintain a safe distance from the relegation zone with 28 points. In front of 52,488 spectators, Kevin Diks scored the goal for Gladbach in stoppage time (90th + 4 minutes) with a penalty kick.

With a late goal, Bayer Leverkusen at least secured a point against relegation-threatened FSV Mainz 05, but once again dropped points. Four days after reaching the round of 16 of the Champions League, coach Kasper Hjulmand’s team couldn’t get past a 1-1 (0-0) draw against Rheinhessen. Arthur’s injury was more serious than the draw for the runner-up. In front of 30,210 spectators in the sold-out Leverkusen stadium, Sheraldo Becker gave the visitors the lead (67th minute) before Jarell Quansah (88th) equalized for Leverkusen.
