Werder Bremen waives further social media rules

Bundesliga club Werder Bremen does not want to impose any special guidelines on its players after explosive social media posts by some football professionals from other clubs.

“Of course it is the case that the boys also deal with the topics and that we exchange ideas about them,” said professional football director Clemens Fritz before the game at Borussia Dortmund on Friday (8:30 p.m./DAZN). But “it is not the case that we feel it is necessary to give our players any special instructions on how they should express themselves.”

In the past few days, professionals Anwar El Ghazi from 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Noussair Mazraoui from FC Bayern Munich, among others, have caused a stir and criticism with posts on social media. Mainz then released El Ghazi from training and games. Bayern Munich announced that it would hold talks with Mazraoui after his return from the Moroccan national team.
