7 players signed so far
With Jens Stage (25), Mitchell Weiser (28) and Co., SV Werder Bremen has so far signed seven players for the upcoming Bundesliga season. Coach Ole Werner was satisfied with the reinforcement of the squad at “Sky”, but sees the green-whites not necessarily at the end. “Yes, of course, as long as a transfer window is open, we always think about it. Where are there still opportunities to do something?” said Werner at the station.
Stage cost 4 million euros, the other players came for free. Werner was aware of the tight financial framework of the promoted team, he said, and he was pleased “that we were able to keep many players, that the core from last year has stayed with us. I think that was the most important thing of all and the newcomers are also integrating well. But the fact is that we are still keeping our eyes and ears open overall.”
If a door opens again, Werder wants to be there, says Werner – especially if, as he put it, a “quality player” can be found: “I think overall we are filled enough that you can go into a season. But despite everything, we have to see where quality players might be possible again for us, who can then make us significantly better in one or the other position. As I said, it always has to fit into the financial framework.”
Filling jug before Arnautovic: The most expensive Werder additions in club history
In the TM rumor mill, central midfielders in particular have been associated with Werder in recent weeks: Oliver Abildgaard (26), Sander Berge (24), Jason Knight (21) and Mohammed Abu Fani (24). The former is according to the “dyke room“ but not an issue, an alleged offer for Berge had turned out to be a duck.
