Comes from Le Havre

Werder Bremen has presented the first new signing for the coming season. Kenny Quetant comes to the Weser from the French first division club AC Le Havre on a free transfer. According to media reports, the 19-year-old center forward will receive a contract with the Green-Whites until 2030, including an option for a further year.

Quetant was trained at the Le Havres youth academy, which produced numerous stars such as Paul Pogba, Dimitri Payet and Steve Mandanda. The 1.89 meter tall attacker made his professional debut in December and has made ten appearances and scored one goal. He benefited from the fact that his competition for the position disappeared in the winter. Ally Samatta took part in the Africa Cup of Nations with Tanzania, Damián Pizarro’s loan from Udinese Calcio was canceled and Younes Namli moved to PEC Zwolle. In return, Sofiane Boufal strengthened Le Havre’s offensive, so that Quetant’s playing times fell significantly after Samatta’s return. He has not been part of the squad since mid-March.

This season, the storm center was a major construction site for the Green-Whites. After Marvin Ducksch’s departure, the gap that arose could never be closed. Bayer loanee Victor Boniface did not prove to be a reinforcement for several reasons, Keke Topp fell well short of expectations and will be out for a long time with a torn cruciate ligament. Jovan Milosevic came on loan from VfB Stuttgart in the winter, started well with three goals, but is in a slump in form after a back injury. There have recently been discussions about whether the Serb will also play for Bremen next season. The last appearances of young attacker Salim Musah, who impressed as a joker, give hope.

Historically, Quetant is the fifth Frenchman on the Weser. The fans will fondly remember the first two: Johan Micoud and Valérien Ismaël were top performers when they won the double in 2004 and have cult status in Bremen. Mikaël Silvestre and Skelly Alvero could not live up to expectations.
