After more than 350 Bundesliga games, it’s over: ex-Werder defender Kevin Vogt is ending his career. But the 34-year-old doesn’t stop voluntarily.
Kevin Vogt started his career at VfL Bochum – and he will end it there. The second division team announced that the 34-year-old will be retiring at the end of the current season. Health and injury-related reasons were the deciding factors, it was said. The defensive player’s contract, which runs until 2027, should be terminated by mutual consent.
“Football has been my life for as long as I can remember,” said Vogt. “VfL was always something special. But my body has shown me clearly in the last few months that things are no longer going as I would like.” Vogt was recently out for months due to knee surgery.
According to the club’s statement, Simon Zoller, director of licensed football at VfL Bochum, spoke of an “extraordinary career” for the long-time Bundesliga professional. Vogt returned to his hometown club in the summer of 2025. The Bochum native had already known the club as a teenager: in 2004 he moved to VfL’s youth team. In 2009 he celebrated his Bundesliga debut for Bochum in the derby against Borussia Dortmund.

Vogt was also there in the second half of the 2019/20 season Werder Bremen under contract. In total, the defender wore the green and white jersey in 17 competitive games. Kevin Vogt also has stints at four other clubs: FC Augsburg, 1. FC Köln, TSG Hoffenheim and Union Berlin.
In the 1st Bundesliga alone, Vogt appeared in 353 games. The 34-year-old never played for the German senior national team, but between 2008 and 2013 he played 17 international matches for the DFB juniors.
