Bundesliga soccer club Werder Bremen has extended the contract with full-back Mitchell Weiser, which expires in the summer.
The club announced this on Saturday; Bremen did not provide any further information about the new contract term for the long-term injured top performer. The 32-year-old did not play a minute last season due to a cruciate ligament injury.
“We hope that he comes back in top shape after his injury,” said coach Daniel Thioune about Weiser, who sustained the serious injury to his knee during last summer’s preparation: “His footballing quality is beyond question and will be good for our team.”
Weiser initially moved to Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen on loan for a year in 2021 and was subsequently signed permanently. During his time at the northern club, he played a total of 123 competitive games, in which he scored 14 goals and 29 goals.
Weiser said he was happy “that my journey at Werder is continuing.” “I can hardly wait to be back on the pitch and will do everything I can to ensure that we play beautiful and successful football.”
