Wendy van Dijk is attacked hard by the people of RTL Boulevard. The show column decided to open last night with the news that her TV career is in a terrible slump.
Things are not going well for Wendy van Dijk. Nowadays, there is more talk about the ratings of her programs than about the programs themselves. They are alarmingly low. Her current program Song on the First Face also scores quite poorly, actually a bit like all contemporary formats by John de Mol.
Frank slaughters Wendy
The prospects for Wendy are so bad that RTL Boulevard opened the broadcast with it last night. “Wendy van Dijk can of course look back on a hugely successful TV career, but she has had a bit of a hard time in recent years,” says Frank Dane, the celebrity hugger who clearly has to read the editors’ autocue texts at Boulevard.
Dan: “Yes, it just won’t work for Wendy van Dijk to become the new Yvon Jaspers. As a presenter of dating programs, she is not yet very successful. ‘It feels too contrived’
Viewing figure expert Tina Nijkamp, Hilversum’s latest fright, is then allowed to give her analysis. “I think it feels a bit too contrived for a lot of viewers, because there is also a prize attached to it: you can win money. I think that dating formats are actually especially successful if they come across as very natural, such as Farmer Searches Woman.”
She says it’s not authentic enough. “I thought the program was quite well put together: nice songs, nice candidates, nice stories. I think that’s not it. I think it’s really that you think as a viewer: well, are those people really looking for a new love?”
‘Another flop’
Jeroen Kijk in de Vegte, the voice-over of Boulevard, does not spare Wendy: “So another flop on Wendy’s TV CV and that still hurts.”
Tina: “This is of course not fun for Wendy van Dijk. She first had Wie Kent Nederland in the summer, of course; that didn’t score very well either, and she has already done a number of dating formats for this. It is true that dating formats very often do not do well.”
Is it Wendy or the format? “I don’t think it has to do with Wendy van Dijk herself. It really has to do with the format.”
John is bummed
Jeroen then: “And so John de Mol, as the creator of the program, will also get out of bed with the wrong leg after seeing the ratings.”
Tina: “I don’t think John de Mol is having a very nice Sunday, because of course he also wants this program to score. It’s actually one of the few formats he’s launching this season.”
