Weightlifter Kiara Klug took a strong sixth place in the snatch at the World Championships in Fjord, Norway.
The 22-year-old vice-European champion achieved a personal best of 111 kg in the over 86 kg class on her World Cup debut and thus led the weaker B group.
Klug was only five kilos short of the bronze place, which was taken by the Chinese Zhu Linhan, who was almost 60 kg heavier. In the clean and jerk, the athlete from SV Empor Berlin achieved 130 kg and took twelfth place; in the duel, Kluge took eleventh place with 241 kg.
The former alpine skier won three medals at the European Championships in Moldova in April and is a German hope for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
“I’ve always wanted to go to the Olympic Games – and actually to the Winter Games for a long time,” Klug told SID before the World Cup: “But even though it’s now the Summer Games, the goal and the dream remain the same.”
