Weidel calls for a new political beginning

By Andreas Kißler

DOW JONES–AfD leader Alice Weidel criticized Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Union faction leader Friedrich Merz (CDU) in the Bundestag and called for a political “new beginning”. “Germany needs a new beginning, freedom and free enterprise instead of climate socialism, a cheap and secure energy supply instead of a planned transformation economy,” said Weidel in the Bundestag debate on Scholz’s vote of confidence. “And above all, we need reason instead of ideology and German politics of interests instead of warmongering.”

Weidel accused Scholz of a “delaying tactic”. “You should have asked the vote of confidence immediately,” she said. The automotive industry is in free fall thanks to gigantic bad investments, mechanical engineering is in decline, the chemical industry is fleeing from skyrocketing energy costs and the power supply is ruined. Internal security is collapsing, the social system is overstretched, “while tax burdens and inflation are robbing citizens of their purchasing power and prosperity and crushing them.” Union parliamentary group leader Friedrich Merz (CDU) accused Weidel of “forming an undemocratic group with the rubble of the failed traffic light.”
