Pescarolo Sport, the endurance team founded by Henri Pescarolo in 2000, has twice finished second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Since 2013, however, one has searched in vain for the legendary name in the list of participants in the 24h Le Mans. That should change in 2024.
Because Pescarolo Sport has joined Peugeot’s hypercar program. At least one Peugeot 9X8 will be used in the 2024 WEC season. The Pescarolo program is to run in parallel with the official Peugeot factory programme. The car (or cars) is prepared at the Peugeot team’s location in Satory, near Paris. The stake is via Pescarolo.
Pescarolo Sport made the announcement this week via Twitter. It is now confirmed by Peugeot. “Pescarolo Sport contacted us a few months ago and after a few discussions, Pescarolo Sport decided to set up a WEC program with a Peugeot 9X8,” explains a Peugeot spokesman.
“We are very proud that Pescarolo Sport has chosen our hypercar. The project is developing very quickly with carefully selected partners and an experienced team. We will provide them with a 9X8 and the necessary technical support and we hope that you program for 2024 is taking shape,” said the Peugeot spokesman.
Former Pescarolo driver Bruce Jouanny is involved in the project. He reveals in an interview with the English-language edition of ‘Motorsport.com’: “We would not have made the announcement and would not have received the confirmation from Jean-Marc Finot (Head of Peugeot Sport; editor’s note) if the project had not would advance.”
“We are in the process of finalizing most of the budget. This is the result of talks that have been going on for a year and a half,” said Jouanny.
It is still unclear whether the Pescarolo program for the 2024 WEC season will include one or even two Peugeot 9X8s. “It would be easier to just use one car and use it correctly. On the other hand, we have high goals,” says Jouanny.
