David Dehenauw: “Around 4 p.m. the gusts will remain around 90 kilometers per hour on the coast for the time being. The expectation is that this will drop a bit towards 80 until early tomorrow morning. After that it will go towards 70 or 60 during the day.”
Classic storm
The weatherman calls it a classic storm. “The trees are still partly in leaves, so they catch a lot of wind, which causes significant damage. But we have not announced any records. Code orange was justified because we still exceeded 90 kilometers per hour. The threshold for giving an orange rating, when trees are still in leaves, is 90 kilometers per hour. When that is no longer the case, it is 100 kilometers per hour. So that seems to have been achieved in several places in West Flanders.”
