Again in a number of buildings of the infamous landlord David D. fraud with electricity and gas meters has come to light. It concerns buildings on the Ridderstraat and the narrow Haven in Den Bosch. D. was arrested at the end of May because he would have disadvantaged his tenants in this way for more than eight tons.
The municipality of Den Bosch and network administrator Enexis found on Monday in another three of his buildings that there has been tampering with electricity and gas facilities. The 54-year-old man owns dozens of buildings. He is suspected of having his tenants pay more over a period of ten years through advances than they actually used in gas and electricity.
With these practices he would have earned more than eight tons. Partly for that reason, his arrest was seized on bank accounts and several expensive cars.
Tenants who question D.’s conduct, received a falsified settlement from his accountant. This accountant has also been stuck, but is now free, just like D. both remain the suspect.
‘Fraud has been established and restored’
In a response, the municipality of Den Bosch confirms the check that it carried out this Monday with Enexis: “Three buildings have been visited to carry out a check for electrical and gas connections. Fraud has been established. Enexis has immediately restored this.”
The spokesperson does not want to comment on details, but lets you know that there was an urgent reason for the check. “The municipality carries out (unannounced) checks more often. But if we suspect or if there are signs that there is abuses at a location, we will give priority to performing such a check. For example, think of such unsafe circumstances that make fire safety in the proceedings.”
At the beginning of this month there were already similar actions at buildings on Brugstraat, Oisterwijkstraat and Van Heurnstraat. At that time, the police were also involved and turned out to have been messing around with the electricity and gas meters in at least four buildings. Seals were broken and meter readings turned back, tenants reported to Omroep Brabant.
New meters
The meters that are fraudulent are removed by Enexis and taken for further research. The network operator is constantly installing new meters, so that the tenants are not without gas and electricity.
In the past, the landlord spoke out several times in the media about the ‘image of the house fancier’. For example, he told Omroep Brabant about his work: “We ensure by thinking along and being creative that more homes are added to the housing stock.”
In 2022, D. was on the list of the ‘fifty largest pawn bosses’. He was in three, with seventy buildings in his possession, of which 62 in Den Bosch.
At the beginning of July, the municipality and Enexis also came into action:
