In the past, in Bit’s delivery, we have wondered where the goods ordered from Temu actually come from. The question came to light when we ended up ordering a package of goods from a Chinese online store.

The confusion was great when the products finally arrived in a brisk week and even without postage. How could the goods arrive in Finland so quickly and for free?

Temu’s communication about free postage was explained by a business model where the online shopping giant could itself act as a direct intermediary between the product’s manufacturer and the customer. The products are not sent to retailers, but directly from the manufacturer to the buyer.

According to Temu, large shipment volumes make it possible to conclude favorable contracts with suppliers. This entity was said to enable low-cost shipments.

At first, however, the online shopping giant refused to comment on where exactly the goods arrive in Finland.

Fast shipping times do not require a warehouse located in the European Union. The tracking information of the package did not reveal which country the products arrived from. However, according to the information, the goods arrived in Finland on a direct flight.

The products ordered by Bit slipped through customs without any requirements for payment of value added tax, which could indicate shipment from within the EU area.

Later, Temu ended up contacting the delivery again to clarify from which country the products ordered from the online store arrive.

According to Temu, a large part of the products sold on the platform come from China, where their manufacturers operate. However, the e-commerce giant has warehouses outside of China.

– There are warehouses in some EU countries, but not in Finland at the moment, it is stated in the e-mail received through communication.
