We tested the clothes worn on the mannequins – Men’s fashion criticism: “The selections are simply miserable”

Two reporters headed to Helsinki clothing stores and put on the clothes on the mannequin.

Two journalists headed to Helsinki clothing stores, with the idea of wearing the look above the mannequin. Originally, the plan was to wear a more expensive look from Stockmann’s selection, a cheaper look from H&M and then one more unisex set.

However, unisex sets were not visible on the mannequins, so we headed to Sokos. We replaced the unisex idea with domestic fashion. The men’s selection was so moderate that we couldn’t get the domestic set pictured above.

The problem of men’s fashion was also visible in other clothing stores.

– I think the men’s selections in clothing stores are simply miserable. The styles are usually frilly and monochromatic, the editor who was involved Joona Rissanen comment.

He says that there is little variation in the outfits offered in the men’s departments.

– While filming the video, you noticed that in the summer, men’s outfits mainly consist of a t-shirt, shorts and a collared shirt. If we really go wild, we might throw in a hat.

Joona feels that such an ensemble is completely functional and she herself dresses like that in the summer, but still, she would like to find new and inspiring outfit ensembles in clothing stores.

– The lack of variation in men’s clothing can also be seen in the design of the clothing stores themselves. Often the men’s clothing department is about a third of the women’s department, and often shares space with the children’s clothing department.

Joona says that she often buys clothes at second hand, because the selection of clothes there is wider and there is more variety.

Next, let’s see how the sets above the mannequin look on a regular person!

Stockmann

Stockmann’s clothing departments are quite extensive. We didn’t go all over the place, instead we chose the sets for the journalist duo, from which the clothing sizes suitable for the model were found first.

Joona Rissanen

The whole of the British Ted Baker brand was chosen over Iran. The picture shows quite clearly how small the mannequins are. Ira wears size M, but the size difference to the model seems quite big.

Ira Juvonen, Joona Rissanen

Joona ended up wearing a stylish set from the American clothing brand Tommy Hilfiger. Stockmann’s men’s section was clearly the widest of all options.

H&M

The journalist duo also visited H&M. The shooting session was not successful, because the selection of sizes was quite moderate. The above looks on the mannequins seem to sell well.

The H&M set looked just like pyjamas. Joona Rissanen

From the women’s department, a nice-looking trouser suit was selected. The set looked quite comfortable on the mannequin, but Ira felt that she was wearing pajamas.

The set found at H&M resembles the outfits from the TV series Miami Vice. Joona Rissanen, Ira Juvonen

The men’s department had several shorts and t-shirt ensembles, but we wanted to bring variety to the story. Because of this, Joona is wearing long pants and a brightly colored collared shirt.

Sokos

The hope was to find a domestic look from Sokos on the journalist duo, which was also on the mannequin.

Ira wears Marimekko’s look. The combination is otherwise beautiful, but the legs are shockingly long and dragged along the floor. Joona Rissanen

In the women’s section, this was successful and Marimekko was selected.

Joona is wearing the look of the Danish Samsøe Samsøe clothing brand. Joona Rissanen, Ira Juvonen

Sokos’ men’s department had some clothes from domestic manufacturers, such as Makia, but these clothes were not on the mannequins. That’s why the look of the Danish clothing brand Samsøe Samsøe was chosen for Joona.
