Wayne Rooney resigns as Derby County manager

Former English soccer player Wayne Rooney is no longer the coach of the traditional Derby County club. The 36-year-old asked for his contract to be terminated, said the financially troubled second division relegated.

“Personally, I feel the club needs to be led by someone with renewed energy who is unaffected by the events that have happened over the past 18 months,” Rooney said.

Despite all the difficulties, he had a lot of fun. It had been a roller coaster ride. The insolvency administrators were disappointed with the decision, but acknowledged the efforts of the “Three Lions” record scorer despite difficult circumstances.

Derby County has had major financial problems for a long time. The English champions of 1972 and 1975 had a total of 21 points deducted during the past season for filing for bankruptcy and violating the rules on “profitability and sustainability”.

This burden was too great, the club was relegated to the third division, called League One. Several takeover attempts have failed so far. Rooney wooed prospects for confidence: “Derby County are a great club with a great history and great fans.”
