The Three Provinces Walking Tour is on the program this afternoon in the border area of Drenthe, Friesland and Groningen. The event can be followed live between 12:00 and 16:00 on RTV Drenthe, RTV Noord and Omrop Fryslân.
The three broadcasters will travel into the region together for this edition of the walk, because the event coincides with the anniversary of the Regional Broadcasting North (RON). Eighty years ago, the RON broadcast for the first time in Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland. That broadcaster eventually gave rise to RTV Drenthe, RTV Noord and Omrop Fryslân.
RTV Drenthe participates in visualizing the walking routes around the three-province point near Bakkeveen, and to give a voice to the special stories of participants.
The participants raise a significant amount of money for charity every year. This year it is for the Fivel Dog and Assistance Foundation from Groningen, which trains guide dogs for people with a physical disability or post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD).
Fivel Dog and Assistance can really use that money, because there is a shortage of assistance dogs. “The waiting lists are long, also because there are too few host families where the dogs can be trained,” says Christine Meijer of the foundation.
