The interiors of the NASA control center, highly concentrated employees and a rocket taking off: three things you wouldn’t necessarily have expected in an Eddie Vedder music video. But the Pearl Jam singer’s official collaboration with NASA can now be admired in the new music video for “Invincible”.

“Can you hear? Are we clear? Cleared for lift off, takeoff” the 57-year-old can be heard saying at the beginning of the video. At his start signal, a rocket can actually be seen taking off: The music video then combines sequences that show Vedder on stage with footage of the new NASA rocket “SLS” in an astonishingly harmonious way.

The video was made to celebrate the completion of the Space Launch System rocket and its first trip to the launch pad. The rocket should – as part of the Artemis mission – “clear the way for longer stays on the moon and serve as a stepping stone on the way to Mars” in the next few years, according to NASA in the video description.

The music video contained scenes from previous run-up tests of the rocket, as well as animations from the commissioning. These showed the “SLS” as it orbited the moon and returned to Earth, NASA explains.

“Invincible” is the first track from Eddie Vedder’s third solo album “Earthling”. It was released at the beginning of the year, followed by a tour: On stage, Vedder talked about his experiences with the corona virus and how grateful he was to be able to play live again.
