Warning shots fired when burglars were arrested: ‘Sat upright in bed’

When five burglars (21 to 29) were arrested in Breda, the police fired three warning shots on Thursday night. The perpetrators ran off when they were caught at a house in Dieststraat. Officers were able to apprehend them after a short chase in the vicinity of the Nieuwe Leuvenaarsstraat.

The burglary was reported to police around 1:30 p.m. When officers arrived in Dieststraat, the burglars disappeared in the direction of Nieuwe Leuvenaarstraat. There the police fired the three warning shots.

One of the burglars resisted his arrest. An officer then used a taser to arrest him.

‘Didn’t dare go outside’
The shots were fired in front of a house in the Nieuwe Leuvenaarstraat. The resident says he was so shocked that he sat up in bed.

“It also made the cats crazy. I knew immediately that it was shots and not fireworks. I didn’t dare go outside. That didn’t seem wise to me. There was also a shooting in the area about three years ago. the fear was good.”
