A 46-year-old man who would have drawn a weapon on Friday evening in a fight at the Pastor Jutenlaan in Bergen op Zoom was in possession of an alarm gun. The police report this on Saturday afternoon. An alarm gun is a gun that does not shed bullets, but only gives a hard bang. After the fight, the police went looking for the suspect and fired a warning shot.
Around half past three on Friday night, the police received a report of a fight on Cardinal de Jonglaan. An armed man is said to have come to a group of quarreling young people. He would have asked the young people to leave and suddenly took a weapon out of his pocket. Both the young people and the man then ran away.
Agents put on bullet -proof vests and went looking for the armed man. About ten minutes later they saw a man who matched the description that the reporter had given. He tried to enter a flat, but nobody let him inside at that time.
Warning shot
The agents pointed their firearm on the suspect and repeatedly shouted that he had to show his hands. The man ignored the orders and walked away. The agents saw that he grabbed his weapon, on which one of them fired a warning shot. The suspect then dived away and dropped his weapon.
The suspect turns out to be a 46-year-old man from Bergen op Zoom, he has been arrested. Later it turned out that the firearm is an alarm gun. Why the man carried this with him is still unclear. The police are investigating further.
