We have another weather record. Never before has it been as warm on October 29 as today. In Eindhoven it even became the warmest with 24.6 degrees.
The previous record dates from 2005, says Roosmarijn Knol of Weerplaza. At that time, 22.3 degrees was measured in the south. So the weather gods went one step further on Saturday, much to the delight of most people. The terraces were packed and many people were wearing a T-shirt.
It is the second day in a row that a heat record has been broken. Friday was hotter than ever. “It often gets warm in October, but two days in a row up to this height makes it special,” says Knol.
Weather records
This year we have added six heat records and a cold record. Those are not exceptional numbers, according to the meteorologist. “In the past there were sometimes years when there were fourteen. But that is usually in the summer. It is special that it now happens at the end of October.”
According to her, the extremes are increasing, something that used to be less the case. “The weather picture can become a lot more erratic. For example, we now see more often that it is very cool at the beginning of October and very warm at the end of October.”
On Sunday it may still be 22 degrees in Brabant. “The record for that day is 22.6 degrees, so that could be matched. But the chance is small because then it should just coincide with the sunshine.”
