War collector makes special find: toothbrush with swastika on

Tony Verschoore loves nothing more than to collect pieces from the First World War. He even has a Facebook group ‘100-year-old eye finds WW1’, where he shares his finds with enthusiasts. He recently made a very special discovery.

Symbol for Hinduism

He found a piece of a toothbrush on Mount Sorrel in Zillebeke, near Ypres. Not so special in itself, but it is if you see that a swastika, or swastika, is engraved in it. That is the symbol of Nazi Germany.

Still, it doesn’t have to have anything to do with the Nazis. For example, the swastika is the sacred symbol of Hinduism, the religion that is practiced in India, among other places. The finder therefore thinks of an Indian pilot or a British soldier who has lived in India. Since three divisions of the British Second Army and three divisions of the German Fourth Army fought at the Ypres Salient in 1916.
