Walloon spring holidays lead to more reservations at the seaside than Easter holidays
Due to the new holiday arrangement in French-speaking Belgium, it is the first time that spring holidays are spread over different periods. The spring break for French-speaking Belgians starts on Saturday 29 April and lasts until Sunday 14 May.
More reservations by French-speaking Belgians
On the eve of the spring holiday, coastal hotels record a quarter more reservations than at the start of the Easter holiday in Flanders. Compared to the same period last year, when there was no holiday, more than 50 percent more hotel rooms have already been booked online.
Spring break begins with the extended weekend of May 1. For that weekend, Westtoer records an average occupancy rate of 70 percent in the coastal hotels. The tourist rental offices on the coast see a higher number of reservations for May by French-speaking Belgians.
Second residents and Dutch people expected
It is also expected that second residents from French-speaking Belgium will go to the sea during the holidays. Since the May holiday also starts in the Netherlands, many Dutch people are also expected at the coast.
