AUDIO: Wacken 2026: Rain or shine? (2 Min)

Stand: 20.07.2026 18:43 Uhr

Wacken Open Air 2026 forecasts indicate variable weather with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Towards the festival weekend, the weather conditions may settle down based on the current outlook.

Will it be wellies, a raincoat, or sunscreen? “Rain or Shine” is the motto of the Wacken Open Air in Steinburg this year as well. To prepare festival-goers for what to expect and what to pack, we are regularly updating this text in collaboration with meteorologists from “WetterWelt.” Here’s the current weather trend for Wacken:

Wednesday, July 29

The festival start in Wacken will be variable. While many clouds will still cover the sky, the sun is likely to shine intermittently, with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures will range from 21 to 23 degrees Celsius, while minimums will hover around 13 to 15 degrees.

Thursday, July 30

The weather will remain friendly with a mix of sun and clouds. Isolated showers are still possible, but overall it will be somewhat drier. Highs will reach 22 to 24 degrees.

Friday, July 31

The sun and clouds will alternate, with additional localized showers possible. It will get a little warmer, with temperatures reaching up to 25 degrees. The lows will be between 12 and 14 degrees.

Saturday, August 1

Just in time for the festival weekend, the weather may shine at its best. Alongside longer sunny spells, a few clouds are still expected to pass, yet the outlook is mostly dry. Summer highs between 25 to 27 degrees are anticipated.

Sunday, August 2

Even on departure day, the forecast looks friendly. The sun and clouds will alternate, with rain only predicted sporadically. Temperatures may reach as high as 26 degrees. As it stands, there is a good chance that cars won’t get stuck in the camping area during departure, and tents can be packed away relatively dry.

Note from the editing team: Weather models are particularly uncertain, especially more than a week in advance. As the festival date approaches, the forecast will become more accurate. This is a preliminary trend, and we will update this weather outlook regularly.

The weather at Wacken has rarely spared extremes since 1990: heavy rain and deep mud, just as sun and heat with temperatures reaching 34 degrees.

Have you sold your soul?

Massive stages, epic mud battles, and a unique festival community: the Wacken Open Air is far more than just a music festival. Journalist Maja Bahtijarević shares the stories behind the Wacken myth in her podcast.

It is the world’s largest metal festival, attracting 75,000 visitors to the small village in the north every year.

The original plan was to lay the plates before the main stages. However, this plan may not work out – they will now be placed in different areas of the site.

The Nature Conservation Foundation has laid eco-mats in a wooded area. Fans are to walk on these mats to the festival site.
