Waasland tunnel in Antwerp closed for three months longer: “Do everything we can to complete works before renovation of the premetro”

As if there were not enough problems on Antwerp’s roads, there is now also bad news from the Waasland tunnel. The ‘rabbit pipe’, as the tunnel is popularly known, will remain closed almost three months longer than planned. This was announced by the Roads and Traffic Agency (AWV). Work on the ventilation system and fire detection started on September 8 and should normally be completed by December 8. But the procedure turns out to be more complex than expected.
