The municipality of Haarlem wants most bridges over the Spaarne to be served remotely in the future. That must then by the province happen from a central in Heerhugowaard. Before that, the bridges must first be prepared for that remote control.
For example, fiber optic connections are made to the bridges and extra cameras are placed to ensure that everything runs safely. It concerns the Prinsenbrug, De Waarderbrug, Schoterbrug, Schouwbroekerbrug, the Buitenrustbruggen and the Figeebrug. The total costs amount to more than 4.5 million euros.
First the Prinsenbrug
The Prinsenbrug is the first to be next year. This is followed by the Waarderbrug, where the work must start in the autumn of 2026. In preparation, the bridge is closed on Tuesday 30 September between 10.30 am and 2.30 pm for road traffic and for ships. On October 1, the bridge is closed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. for sailing traffic, cars and cyclists can simply use it.
Safer for cyclists
During the major maintenance of the Waarderbrug, the traffic light on the Spaarndamseweg will also be adjusted. That is a busy cycle route, where accidents occur with some regularity. It is not yet clear how the traffic situation is made safer.
The work is planned outside the sailing season, so that shipping is not bothered by it. This is done in consultation with the port service. The remaining traffic is diverted with signs.
