The board of the VVD nominates Onno Hoes as the new party chairman. He is to succeed Christianne van der Wal, who has become Minister for Nature in Nitrogen.
Hoes is already acting chairman of the party. He said in a response that he wanted to have “intensive contact” with members and voters of the liberal party in the coming years as chairman.
A total of five candidates had reported to the selection committee of the main board. Candidates can still apply. In the autumn, the chairman is elected through a consultation of members.
Hoes (1961) was, among other things, a member of the provincial and Provincial Executive of North Brabant and chairman of the VVD region South. He was also mayor of Maastricht and acting mayor of Haarlemmermeer. He is currently chairman of the NVM, among other things.
