Looking tensely in bed at Curaçao

“You know that if we lose, we won’t make it,” Anita recalls. “One point is enough for us. It was still a bit of a struggle with the penalty and the VAR moment. I still had to get up early with the children, so I went to sleep afterwards.”

During his time at Curaçao, Anita already saw the level of the country rise. “The organization became more and more professional. More and more players joined, so the country became stronger and stronger. Now you see that boys are also making the switch more quickly and choosing Curaçao.” The former footballer is still unsure whether he will watch the World Cup matches on the island or in the Netherlands. “The tension will certainly be high, that’s more than if you play along yourself.”

World Cup draw

The draw for the group matches at the World Cup is on Friday, December 5. The Netherlands is classified in pot 1, as one of the strongest countries in the FIFA rankings. Curaçao is in pot 4. A possible group match between both countries is therefore certainly possible.
