Vuelta: Breakaway Herrada wins Stage 7

Before the difficult mountain finishes at the weekend, Jesus Herrada used the 7th stage of the 77th Vuelta to an escape victory. It continues Remco Evenepoel.

The Spaniard Herrada won on Friday (08/26/2022) after 190 kilometers from Camargo to Cistierna in the sprint of a group of five ahead of the Italian Samuele Battistella and the Briton Fred Wright. For Herrada it was the second Vuelta stage win after 2019.

The best German was Nikias Arndt in 13th place, the 30-year-old finished 29 seconds behind the winner with the peloton.

Evenepoel still in the red jersey

There were no changes at the top of the overall standings. The red jersey is still worn by young Belgian star Remco Evenepoel, who took the lead the day before. The 22-year-old is 21 seconds ahead of Frenchman Rudy Molard.

Defending champion Primoz Roglic of Slovenia is 1:01 behind in fourth overall.

Two mountain finishes are on the program for the weekend. On Saturday, the end of the climb is Collau Fancuaya, followed a day later by Les Praeres Nava – both category 1 climbs.
