Vuelta 2024 starts in Portugal

The Vuelta a Espana 2024 starts on August 17th with an individual time trial in Portugal’s capital Lisbon and traditionally ends in Madrid on September 8th – also with a fight against the clock.

As the organizers announced at the route presentation on Tuesday, the first three day sections will take place in Portugal. The last time the professional cyclists’ Tour of Spain began outside the country’s borders was in 1997.

The 79th Vuelta will be an event for climbing specialists with nine mountain finishes. “If there is one thing that defines the 2024 route, it is its toughness,” said Vuelta director Javier Guillen.

The defending champion is the American Sepp Kuss.
