On to the polls! The House of Representatives are on Wednesday 29 October. Are you not in Zoetermeer that day, but do you want to cast your vote? No worries, you can also go to another municipality. That’s how it works.

Suppose you live in Zoetermeer, but work in The Hague. You have a long day ahead and therefore you cannot go to a polling station in Zoetermeer. With a voters pass you can vote in another municipality.

Pass it on to the Municipality of Zoetermeer

If you want to go to the polling station in another city, you must first indicate this at the town hall in Zoetermeer. This is possible up to fourteen days before the parliamentary elections with a form that you can get from the town hall.

Another option: you go to the town hall with your voting pass and indicate verbally that you want to vote somewhere else. This is possible until the day before the vote (Tuesday 28 October to 12:00). You will receive your voting pass about three weeks before the elections in the letterbox.

Visit yourself

If the municipality accepts your request, you will receive a voter pass. With that you can go to every polling station in the Netherlands. Note: If you lose the voters pass, you will not get a new one.

So you have to visit the town hall in your own place of residence anyway. According to parliament.com the municipality rejects a request if you are not allowed to vote, for example because of a court decision. Your request can also be rejected if you already have permission to vote through a letter or proxy.

On vacation or sick?

Are you not in the Netherlands at all on Wednesday 29 October or are you sick, for example, that you cannot vote for yourself? Then you can authorize someone else to vote in your place through a (written) power of attorney. That way, for example, your partner or a friend can vote for you. The person must then cast a vote at the same time.

You can arrange the power of attorney on your voting pass by filling in your data and that of the authorized representative. Here you can read all about it.
