Vooruit wants to almost double taxes on second homes. What does that mean for you? And is it politically feasible?

To make the first home affordable for more people, Vooruit is approaching voters with a bold proposal: the Socialists want to increase the registration fees on the second home from 12 to 21 percent. Today, 850,000 Belgians own such additional property: a holiday home, student rooms or a home that is offered for rent. Does this proposal have a political chance of success? And how many tens of thousands of euros do you pay extra, for example for an apartment in Nieuwpoort or a holiday home in Durbuy?
