The British duo drank themselves to grief at last year’s Tour.
Top skiers James Clugnet and Andrew Musgrave threw in the towel on last year’s Tour even before the turn of the year due to illness.
The men had their minds on the ground when one of the main goals of the season ended in a pancake. So they decided to cheer up the mood with the power of alcohol. The radar pair opened the cap and went to explore Toblach’s nightlife at the turn of the year.
According to Musgrave, things got “a little” out of hand. The evening ended with thrashing around in the street and throwing up. The neighbors reportedly did not like men’s partying.
– The whole hotel got mad at us because “Mussy” [Musgrave] talking so loudly on the phone, Clugnet recalled Dagbladet by Skirious Problems on the podcast.
– But we were able to return to the same hotel this year, so I don’t think the glühwein stains on the bedclothes put them off.
Dagbladet asked Musgrave about what happened at this year’s Tour.
– I did well, but Jimmy did [Clugnet] was a bit tougher. Let’s just say he had a tough trip home. You can ask him about it. We drank some glühwein. Then we found someone who made grappa. It was good, Musgrave said.
Although the hangover was severe, Clugnet told Dagbladet that the rapture left a good feeling.
– It was an extremely good party. Maybe partly because they weren’t planned. We felt bad because the worst day of our lives was behind us. Then suddenly there was a party in the same place, Clugnet said.
– When we woke up, “Mussy” said that it was the best party he’s ever been to.
This year, the men have focused on skiing. After three stages, Musgrave is sixth in the Tour, leading by one minute and 11 seconds Johannes Klæboa after.
Clugnet, on the other hand, is in 78th place. He is already almost nine minutes behind the Norwegian.
The Tour de Ski continues on Wednesday with a 15-kilometer pursuit race, which takes place in the traditional progression style.
