Volvo Cars no longer sells pure diesel and petrol engines in Denmark

COPENHAGEN (dpa-AFX) – The car manufacturer Volvo Cars (Volvo Car) no longer sells vehicles in Denmark that run exclusively on petrol or diesel. Instead, the company in the northernmost German neighboring country only relies on electric and hybrid cars, as Volvo Car Denmark announced on Tuesday. After Norway, Denmark is the second country in the world where the group focuses exclusively on charging vehicles. Vehicles with combustion engines had already disappeared from the Danish Volvo website on Tuesday.

The measure is an important milestone in the global company strategy to be a fully electric car manufacturer by 2030, said the Danish division of Volvo Cars. In the course of time, they also want to say goodbye to the hybrids completely. The future is electric, explained the head of Volvo Car Denmark, Sarka Heyna Fuchsova.

Compared to other European markets, electric cars and plug-in hybrids are extremely popular in Denmark, according to Volvo. The charging infrastructure is strong and growing, and there is also the general national focus of the Danes on sustainability and electrification, as well as the tax advantages of buying such vehicles.

Volvo Cars has been separated from the commercial vehicle manufacturer Volvo AB for decades and has been a subsidiary of the Chinese car group Geely for years, which bought the company from the US group Ford (Ford Motor) in 2010. Volvo Cars went public at the end of October 2021./trs/DP/men
