“There are still victims that we cannot reach, but we plan to take a rubber boat out on the water this afternoon to see if we can catch more,” said bird conservationist Farenka Lycke. “We have been busy all weekend going out on the water, catching victims, taking them out of the water and taking them to Ostend. Fat that sticks to the birds destroys the protective layer and then they sink. Coots hide in the bushes or in the reeds, where they die.”
