Volley Bundesliga player SWD Powervolley Düren has separated from his coach Rafal Murczkiewicz. The club announced this on Wednesday on the club’s website.

According to a press release, the sporting management reacted to the increasingly tense relationship between the coach and the team.

Defeat in the cup final on Sunday

“We have come to the conclusion that, in view of the demanding tasks that lie ahead of the team in the league, the better solution is to dissolve the increasingly strained relationship,” said Benjamin Kaulen, managing director of the Bundesliga club.

After the lost cup final on Sunday against the Berlin Volleys, existing internal tensions were brought to light and intensified. As a result, several intensive discussions were held at the beginning of the week.

Contract would have expired in the summer

“This step is difficult for us and is unusual for us. But we have to think of the big picture,” explains Kaulen. “We can look back on almost three years in which we achieved good results with Rafał Murczkiewicz. We are also grateful to him for that. Recently, however, the relationship has become more and more cracked. We want to make sure that the team is fully involved can concentrate on their sporting tasks. We don’t have the impression that that’s still possible in the current constellation.”

The club had already decided in mid-February not to extend the contract with Rafal Murczkiewicz, which was due to expire in the summer. The separation in the middle of the season comes as a surprise. A successor has not yet been presented. The club is looking for an interim solution as quickly as possible.

The next meeting with the reigning champions and cup winners from Berlin is already on Friday – this time in the Bundesliga.
