Volleyball European Championship: Türkiye and Azerbaijan win

Turkey and Azerbaijan were successful in the German group at the European Volleyball Championships. Serbia and the Netherlands also won.

In the 3-0 (25:22, 25:18, 25:13) against Sweden on Friday (08/18/2023), only the first set was relatively hard-fought. After 32 minutes, the Turkish women secured it and then left no doubt about victory. They dominated the Scandinavians almost at will from the middle of set two. At a score of 8:6, Turkey pulled away – more than 16:10 to win the set safely with a seven-point lead.

The third set also got off to a good start for Turkey: Sweden only scored the first point when the score was 6-0. Things went back and forth afterwards, but with the reassuring advantage behind them, Turkey played the success home confidently. After Germany, Turkey is also unharmed and moved up to the top of the table in Group C.

In the other game of the group on Friday, Azerbaijan beat the Czech Republic 3-0 (25:21, 25:10, 25:15). The Azerbaijanis are the next opponents of the German team on Saturday.

Serbia and the Netherlands win

In Group A, to be played in Belgium, Serbia beat Ukraine. The Serbians were clearly superior to the Eastern Europeans at 3:0 (25:14, 25:19, 25:16). Serbia now has three points and 3-0 sets, just like hosts Belgium. In addition, Slovenia lost 3-0 to Poland.

Group B, on the other hand, offered an extremely exciting game in Bosnia-Herzegovina’s 3-2 win against Croatia. Bosnia-Herzegovina came back twice after falling behind and completely turned the game around in the decider.

In Group D, taking place in the Estonian capital of Tallinn, the Netherlands defeated Slovakia 3-0. The Dutch women won for the second time and lead the table confidently. In addition, France narrowly won 3-2 against Spain.
