Volleyball, A-1 women: Scandicci makes no concessions and moves on to Trento. Ok Rome and Chieri

In the advance matches of the sixth day three successes for 3-0. Bergamo falls to the capital, Pinerolo beaten in the Piedmont derby

TRENTO-SCANDICCI 0-3 (16-25, 16-25, 18-25)

Sixth stop in as many championship matches for the women’s Itas Trentino, with Savino del Bene Scandicci who was a corsair at the foot of the Dolomites in three sets. He always competes firmly in the hands of coach Massimo Barbolini’s Tuscans, who perform better in practically all fundamentals. First of all, the block is the fundamental thing that allows the Tuscans to muzzle Sinibaldi’s hosts, with 16 blocks in three sets that make it difficult for Itas to put the ball on the ground. A Scandicci without Antropova and Zhu Ting, driven by an excellent Villani and a positive Washington. On the other side of the net with the reception stuttering with only Dehoog managing to find some continuity in putting the ball on the ground. At the start of the match Villani immediately warms up his arm (4-10), the double error in attack allows the guests to escape (6-12) against a Trento in trouble. Herbots blocks for 10-16, Villani’s double block in a row brings the score to 12-20 with Scandicci who only has to manage the advantage until the end. In the second set the script is practically identical: 5-10 with Villani’s diagonal, Angelina in for Michieletto with only Dehoog keeping the Dolomites in its wake (8-13). The set is one-sided (8-16), Mason inside for Dehoog and Stocco on the dribble when the scoreboard reads 11-19. As in the previous set, the final part is purely managed by Nwakalor and company. This brings us to the third set in which Itas tries a reaction (6-6) at the start, with the double point of the two home places the score remains contested (10-11). Angelina comes in for Michieletto at 11-14, but Guiducci’s invasion of the net and Washington’s attack give the sprint to Scandicci’s break (14-19). Inside Stocco dribbles but Dehoog shoots out the attack to 15-22 in favor of Scandicci. With the Tuscans flying to seal the three points.

Chieri-Pinerolo 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-21)

A PalaFenera fired up for the highly anticipated derby with Pinerolo saw coach Giulio Cesare Bregoli’s white and blue girls triumph 3-0, coming off a hard-fought 1-3 victory away to Vallefoglia. The presence of three former players made the derby even more heartfelt: Akrari and Storck in Pinerolo, Gray in Chieri. A good start to the match for the Chieri team, which was abruptly interrupted, however, at 11-11 in the first set with the slight ankle injury of captain Grobelna, who was replaced on the court by Anthouli. After a point-to-point battle Chieri takes the lead and overtakes, gaining a precious lead of four points, in which Skinner shines as he scores 5. On set point Bregoli also brings Omoruyi into play, a pleasant return for her, after a injury that had forced her away from the scene for a few weeks. In the second set a Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri in great form puts on a show and takes a lead of up to +9 points. An unbridgeable gap for the girls from Pinerolo, who at 20-11 see their opponent Grobelna return to the field, paired with Morello and give up the set to the hosts 25-15. Third set still subdued for Pinerolo, who doesn’t find the right feeling to worry and attack her opponents properly. A predictable epilogue, therefore, for a one-sided third set. Skinner closes the match, at 25-21.

Roma-Bergamo 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22)

After losing in the tie-break against Florence last day, the first 3-point victory arrives for Roma which takes a further step forward on the primary objective of the season, salvation. For Bergamo, fifth consecutive defeat in six matches. Match that begins with the two sextets paired until the hosts are the ones to extend the lead (14-10) thanks to the excellent attacks of Rivero (7 points) Bici (4) and Plak (3). The reception of the Giallorossi was also good as they managed to maintain the advantage they had accumulated until the end of the set (25-21). For the rossoblù many errors (10), the last of which was a fatal serve by Fitzmorris. In the second set the match continues with great balance between the two teams, until the Giallorossi continue to lead thanks to the great lashes of Plak (21-17) who scores another 8 points. Bergamo still fouled (8 errors) which kept itself afloat with shots from Lorrayna (5 points) and Nervini (5). The distance between the two teams, however, is too wide to be bridged and in the end, after an error by Rivero, it is Plak who closes again at 25-21. Third set which starts in a very favorable way for Roma who immediately finds an important advantage (8-2). The Bergamo team, however, do not give up and try to regain the result thanks to a positive series of attacks and errors from Cuccarini’s girls (15-14). Plak takes care of taking the chestnuts out of the fire – with a great final of the set – which stops the Lombards at 25-22. Next day, away match in Pinerolo for the Wolves and home match for Bergamo against Chieri.
