Volkswagen’s zero-emission family also welcomes the Polo, which maintains the familiar design and offers two battery sizes for a range of up to 455 km

April 29, 2026 (changed at 12:32 pm) – HAMBURG (GERMANY)

After trying it and seeing its interior, it’s time to finally remove the veils from it Volkswagen ID. Pole: the smallest of the electric cars from the Wolfsburg company inaugurates a trend that will see the historic names of the internal combustion vehicles reused, with the addition of the ID prefix, even on the battery-powered ones. The design allows us to immediately understand the model we are faced with: a precise desire to maintain the link with the cars that have made Volkswagen’s fortune for so many years, allowing the public to recognize them immediately. Under the skin the ID. Polo features two different batteries and three power levels of its engine, for an autonomy of up to 455 km. Orders open already at the end of April, with a price that in Germany will be 24,995 euros: for Italy too we must expect an attack threshold less than 25 thousand.

Family

Volkswagen’s desire in creating this new range of electrics, which starts with the ID. Polo and will continue with ID. Crossesis to put the zero emission range in parallel with the thermal one, maintaining the common name and the immediately recognizable design. This happens fully on the ID. Polo, which has several similarities with the design of the thermal: the thin front grille, here full and backlit, as well as the headlights, immediately highlight a family feeling with other Volkswagen models. From the side, this car has smooth sides, with flares on the rear wheels that accentuate the muscular but not heavy shapes, while the very pronounced C pillar gives it strength. At the rear, the rectangular lights connected by a full-width LED stand out. Compared to the thermal pole, the length is now shorter 4,053 mmwhile all the other measurements grow: width of 1,816 mm, height of 1,530 mm and wheelbase of 2,600 mm.

Up to 455 km

The range of the ID. Polo is divided into three power levels and two battery sizes. The 37 kWh one, with Lfp (lithium-iron-phosphate) chemistry, is combined with the 116 or 135 HP and 290 Nm of torque, which allow a range of 329km. The 52 kWh battery, however, has NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) chemistry and is offered only with the most powerful version 211 HPfor a maximum autonomy of 455 km. In the case of the small battery, the maximum direct current charging power is 90 kW and the transition from 10 to 80% at the charging station takes place in approximately 27 minutes. With the larger one the power increases to 105 kW and the time drops to 24 minutes. The choice of a front-wheel drive base made it possible to reduce complexity and weight (1,548 kg), leaving the rear area free which is equipped with a suspension with interconnected arms which allows for a significant increase in internal space, including for the boot. Among the other most interesting solutions, braking is managed via a one-box with discs at the front and rear. This system, combined with adjustable energy recovery, allows you to make the car as efficient as possible.

Interior care

Even the internal environment of the ID. Polo highlights the desire to modernize the car, with ainfotainment 13″ in a very evident central position, while the digital dashboard measures 10″ and is visible through the rim of the large two-spoke steering wheel full of physical buttons. The latter are also shown on the dashboard and allow you to adjust the climate control. The “retro mode” available for the dashboard and screen is curious and interesting, thus becoming similar to those present on the first restyling Golf series of the 1980s. The central tunnel offers numerous storage spaces and a mobile phone charging plate, while the dashboard and door coverings highlight a desire for attention to detail and are made largely with recycled and sustainable materials. The invisible handles with vertical opening are curious. There is also plenty of space for the rear passengers, while the boot is truly remarkable thanks to the solution of the rear suspension with interconnected arms: well 441 litres also considering the double retractable bottom, while by folding down the sofa the capacity is reached 1,243 litres.

The setups

There are three trim levels available on the ID. Pole. The base of the range is the Trendswhich already includes several standard Adas such as lane keeping assistant, as well as features such as LED headlights and automatic climate control. The intermediate Life adds various technological features such as adaptive cruise control, rear parking camera, electric mirrors, voice controls and induction charging plate for smartphones. Finally, the range is completed with the richest Stylewhich includes LED matrix headlights with IQ.Light technology, illuminated Volkswagen logo front and rear, heated sports seats as well as the steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control and digital key.
